Brawl Stars Upgrade Priority: Where to Spend Coins and Power Points
Coins and power points run out fast in Brawl Stars. Here's how to choose which brawlers to upgrade, when Gadgets and Star Powers unlock and how to avoid spreading too thin.
Brawl StarsUpgrade Priority Upgrading brawlers costs coins and power points, and there’s never enough of either. Spending them on the right brawlers makes a huge difference to how fast you climb.
How upgrades work
- Each brawler has a power level, up to a maximum of 11.
- Raising the power level costs power points and coins.
- Higher power levels give more health and damage – and unlock extra abilities.
Key unlocks along the way
| Power level | What unlocks |
|---|---|
| 7 | Gadgets – active abilities with limited uses per match |
| 9 | Star Powers – passive abilities that change how a brawler plays |
| Higher levels | Further upgrades such as Gears and Hypercharges |
Check each brawler’s screen for exactly what they unlock and when. A brawler often feels completely different once their best Gadget or Star Power is available.
Who to upgrade first
- Your favourite brawler in each role – one tank, one long-range damage dealer, one controller or support.
- Brawlers that are strong in many modes. Versatile picks give more value per coin.
- Brawlers close to a key unlock – pushing from 8 to 9 for a great Star Power is often worth more than raising a low-level brawler.
Avoid upgrading every brawler a little. A few fully upgraded brawlers win more than many half-upgraded ones.
Gadgets and Star Powers
Many brawlers have more than one Gadget and Star Power, and one option is often much better than the other for most situations. Before buying:
- Read both options and think about the modes you play.
- Buy the one that fits your play style first.
- Pick up the second later for flexibility.
Saving resources
- Save coins before new brawlers or big updates so you can upgrade quickly.
- Don’t panic-upgrade after balance changes – wait to see how a brawler actually performs.
- Complete quests and events – they’re your main source of coins and power points.
Common mistakes
- Upgrading brawlers you rarely play.
- Stopping one level short of a key Gadget or Star Power.
- Spending everything right before a new release.
