Call of Dragons Artifacts Guide: Matching Artifacts to Your Armies
Artifacts add an extra active skill to your Call of Dragons armies. How they work, how to match them to PvE, PvP and gathering marches, and which to upgrade first.
Call of DragonsArtifacts Guide Artifacts are equipment for your heroes that add an extra active skill to the army they lead. The right artifact can noticeably change the outcome of a fight – and the wrong one wastes a slot.
How artifacts work
- Each army can carry an artifact through its heroes.
- Artifacts provide an active effect in battle – damage, healing, shields or control – plus stats.
- Higher-quality artifacts have stronger effects and can be upgraded.
Match the artifact to the job
| Army’s job | Look for |
|---|---|
| PvE (darklings, behemoths) | Area damage and sustained damage |
| Open-field PvP | Burst damage, control or strong defensive effects |
| Defending your city | Healing, shields and damage reduction |
| Gathering | Defensive effects – gathering marches mostly need to survive |
The same artifact rarely fits every role, so plan which army gets which artifact.
Which artifacts to upgrade first
- The artifact on your main army – it’s used in almost every important fight.
- Your rally artifact – rallies against darklings and behemoths are frequent.
- Defensive artifacts – once your offence is solid.
Upgrading one artifact fully is usually better than raising several a little.
Artifacts and talents
Artifacts work best when they reinforce what your heroes already do. A hero pair built for area damage benefits more from an area-damage artifact than from a single-target one. See our hero pairing guide for building around talents.
Where artifacts come from
Artifacts are typically earned through events, progression rewards and other special sources. Because they’re limited, think carefully before investing upgrade materials into one.
Common mistakes
- Leaving secondary armies without artifacts.
- Using a PvE artifact in PvP fights (and vice versa).
- Spreading upgrade materials across many artifacts.
- Ignoring artifacts entirely because heroes seem more important.
Artifacts are a small slot with a big impact. Match them to each army’s job, upgrade your main one first, and your armies will hit noticeably harder.
