Hero Wars Color Promotion Guide: Equipment, Crafting and Who to Promote First
Color promotion is one of the biggest stat boosts in Hero Wars. How equipment and crafting work, how to farm missing items and which heroes to promote first.
Hero WarsColor Promotion Guide In Hero Wars, a hero’s color is one of the clearest signs of their strength. Promoting heroes through the color ranks gives large stat increases – often bigger than a few extra levels.
How color promotion works
- Each hero has equipment slots for their current color rank.
- Fill every slot with the required items.
- Once all slots are filled, promote the hero to the next rank.
- The next rank comes with a new, usually more demanding set of items.
Ranks progress from white through green, blue, violet and orange, with ”+” steps in between. Each step makes the hero noticeably stronger.
Getting equipment
| Source | Notes |
|---|---|
| Campaign stages | Most items drop here – each item shows where to farm it |
| Crafting | Higher items are crafted from fragments and recipes |
| Shops | Arena, Tower and other shops sell specific items |
| Events and chests | Occasional bonus items |
Tap an item in the hero screen to see exactly where it drops. That saves a lot of guesswork.
Farming tips
- Farm items for your core team first.
- Check which stages drop several needed items and farm those.
- Use energy before it caps – idle energy is wasted progress.
- Craft only what you need now – materials are shared across heroes.
Who to promote first
| Priority | Hero | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Your tank | Survival keeps the team fighting |
| 2 | Your main damage dealer | Faster clears everywhere |
| 3 | Your healer or support | Stronger healing and buffs |
| 4 | The rest of your core five | Balanced team strength |
Promoting heroes you don’t use is the most common way new players waste items.
Color vs other upgrades
Color promotion works best alongside other upgrades:
- Levels – limited by your team level.
- Stars – raised with soul stones.
- Skills – upgraded with gold and skill points.
- Artifacts, skins and glyphs – covered in our artifacts guide and skins and glyphs guide.
For a full overview of what to upgrade first, see our upgrade priority tier list.
Common mistakes
- Promoting heroes outside your core team.
- Crafting items for future colors before current ones are done.
- Ignoring shop items that could finish a promotion.
Steady color promotion on a focused team is one of the fastest ways to grow in Hero Wars. Start with your tank and build from there.
