AFK Arena Tier List: Best Heroes to Invest In (Editor's Picks)

Our opinionated AFK Arena tier list focused on long-term value – which heroes to ascend first and which ones can safely sit on the bench.

AFK Arena has hundreds of heroes, and resources for ascending them are tight. This tier list is about investment value: how much a hero gives back across many game modes compared to the cost of ascending them.

Tier lists are opinions, and AFK Arena’s balance changes regularly. Use this as a starting point, then adjust for the heroes you actually own.

How we rank heroes

  • Versatility – useful in campaign, Arena, Labyrinth and Guild hunts.
  • Investment curve – does the hero work at Elite+ or only at high signature/furniture levels?
  • Team flexibility – can they slot into multiple factions’ teams?

Tier list

TierHeroesWhy
SRowan, Nemora, BrutusLong-lasting value across many modes; flexible in most teams
ALucius, Thoveron, Shemira, TasiStrong early-game picks that carry you through the campaign
BLyca, Athalia, ArdenGood in specific comps or modes; invest after your core
COther early heroesFine as placeholders, but don’t spend scarce resources here

Why these picks?

Rowan

Rowan is a support who boosts energy and helps your team reach their ultimates faster. Energy manipulation scales well into the late game, which is why he stays relevant long after other early heroes fade.

Nemora

Nemora heals and can charm enemies. Charm turns an enemy hero against their own team for a short time, which is extremely strong in PvP and still useful in PvE.

Brutus

Brutus is a frontline that is very hard to kill and pulls attention from your backline. A tank that refuses to die buys time for everyone else.

Early-game investment tips

  1. Ascend five heroes first. The Resonating Crystal lets other heroes share the level of your top five, so concentrate early ascension on a core group.
  2. Use faction advantages. Lightbearers, Maulers, Wilders and Graveborn form a cycle; Celestials and Hypogeans counter each other. Swapping one hero for a counter can win a stage you thought was impossible.
  3. Don’t chase every new hero. New releases are tempting, but finishing your current core is almost always stronger.

Bench-worthy heroes

Heroes in tier C aren’t useless – they are great for filling the Labyrinth and Guild hunts – but they shouldn’t receive your scarce elite-grade fodder. Promote them only when you have spare copies.

Final thoughts

Build a flexible core, then specialise. If you have a different favourite that carries your account, that’s fine – the best hero is the one that clears your current stage.
