Mech Arena Positioning and Cover: How to Survive Longer and Deal More Damage
Positioning wins more Mech Arena fights than aim. How to use cover, peek safely, hold angles and stay inside your weapons' effective range.

Mech ArenaPositioning and Cover In Mech Arena, the mech that survives longest usually deals the most damage. Good positioning keeps you alive, and staying alive lets you keep shooting.
Use cover every time
Maps are full of walls, buildings and obstacles. Use them:
- Peek, shoot, step back.
- Reload behind cover, never in the open.
- Retreat to cover before your shield or health runs out, not after.
Fight at your range
Every weapon has an effective range. Outside it, damage drops sharply. Before engaging:
- Close-range mechs should approach from cover and strike suddenly.
- Long-range mechs should keep distance and avoid being rushed.
- Medium-range mechs should stay near teammates and control space.
Hold angles
An “angle” is a line of sight you watch while protected. Good angles:
- Cover an objective or chokepoint.
- Let you shoot without being exposed to multiple enemies.
- Have an escape route.
Avoid common traps
| Trap | Why it’s dangerous |
|---|---|
| Open ground | Every enemy can shoot you |
| Dead ends | No escape when you’re losing |
| Pushing alone | You fight 1v2 or 1v3 |
| Standing still | Easy target for long-range mechs |
Positioning by role
- Tanks: front, absorbing attention, but near cover.
- Brawlers: flanks and corners, ready to strike.
- Supports: behind the tanks, protected.
- Snipers: back line with long sight lines and cover.
See our beginner guide for more on roles.
Common mistakes
- Fighting in the open.
- Shooting from outside effective range.
- Retreating too late.
Good positioning costs nothing and wins fights. Practise it every match and your survival – and damage – will climb.
