Where to Spend Gems in RAID: A Free-to-Play Priority List

Gems are RAID's most valuable currency. Here's what experienced free-to-play players spend them on – and the gem traps that new players fall into.

Best place to spend gems title over the mastery trees

Gems are the premium currency in RAID, and free players earn a steady trickle of them from daily quests, login rewards, Arena, events and achievements. How you spend that trickle has a huge impact on long-term progress.

The golden rule

Spend gems on things that compound. Energy turns into gear and food, gear storage protects good items, and vault space lets you keep useful champions. Cosmetic or one-off purchases don’t compound.

Priority list

PrioritySpend onWhy
1Energy refills during events and tournamentsEnergy becomes gear, food and event points
2Artifact storage expansionsRunning out of space forces you to sell good gear
3Champion slots / vault spaceKeep useful rares and duplicates instead of feeding them
4Arena token refreshes (only when pushing tiers)Better weekly rewards when close to a promotion
5Occasional Market purchasesOnly when an item is clearly valuable for your account

Gem traps to avoid

  • Speeding up long timers unless an event specifically rewards it.
  • Buying cosmetic skins before your account is established.
  • Spending gems on summons. Shards come free from events, Clan Boss, Arena and fusions – gems are better spent on energy that earns more shards indirectly.
  • Refreshing the Market blindly, hoping for something good.

Making energy refills count

Energy is only valuable if you spend it well. When you refill:

  1. Check active events and tournaments first – a dungeon tournament can turn the same energy into extra shards and rewards.
  2. Have a plan: gear farming for a specific set, potions for an ascension, or food for a rank-up.
  3. Use XP boosts if you’re farming the campaign.

How free players earn more gems

  • Daily and weekly quests – never skip these.
  • Achievements and the mission line – many missions reward gems along with champions like Arbiter.
  • Arena tiers – higher tiers give better weekly rewards.
  • Login streaks and anniversary events – just showing up pays.

A note on paid packs

If you do spend money, the general community advice is to prefer long-term value packs (daily gem or energy subscriptions) over one-time offers. Never feel pressured by countdown timers – there will always be another offer.

Spending gems wisely is less exciting than pulling shards, but it’s how strong free accounts are built. Pair this with our silver farming tips and your economy will rarely be the bottleneck.
