AFK Arena Arena of Heroes Guide: Climbing Ranks and Building a Defence

How the Arena of Heroes works in AFK Arena – tickets, picking opponents, building an attack team and a defence the AI can actually use well.

The Arena of Heroes is AFK Arena’s main PvP mode. You attack other players’ defence teams (controlled by the AI), and your own defence fights back when others challenge you. It’s quick, rewarding and a great way to test your team.

How it works

  • You get a number of free attempts each day; extra attempts use tickets.
  • Wins raise your rank and points; losses lower them.
  • You receive daily and seasonal rewards based on your rank, plus Hero Coins to spend in the store.

Even if PvP isn’t your thing, use your free attempts every day – they also count towards daily quests.

Picking opponents

You can usually choose from several opponents. Before attacking:

  1. Compare power, but don’t trust it blindly – team composition matters more.
  2. Check their factions and bring counters. See our factions guide.
  3. Look for weak front lines your damage dealers can break quickly.
  4. Refresh the list if all options look bad.

Building an attack team

Arena fights are short. The team that fires its key ultimates first usually wins:

  • Energy support to speed up ultimates.
  • Burst or area damage to remove threats fast.
  • Crowd control to stop the enemy’s carries.
  • One sturdy front-liner to buy a little time.

Building a defence

Your defence is played by the AI, which uses skills automatically. Good defences:

  • Rely on simple, automatic strengths – strong passives, healing and durable heroes.
  • Avoid heroes that need perfect manual timing.
  • Protect the back line with a solid front and some crowd control.
  • Mix factions so no single counter beats the whole team.

Arena rewards and the store

Hero Coins buy useful items in the store. Spend them on things that support your core heroes rather than impulse purchases.

Beyond the Arena of Heroes

As you progress, more competitive modes open up, including higher-tier PvP for top players and guild-based competitions. The Arena of Heroes is the best place to learn PvP fundamentals before moving on.

Common mistakes

  • Skipping free attempts.
  • Attacking purely by power number.
  • Using a defence that depends on manual ultimates.

A few smart fights every day keep you climbing. Combine this with our formation guide for even better results.
