Equipment is one of the most underrated sources of power in Rise of Kingdoms. A good set of gear can add more to your army than several levels of research.

How equipment works

  • Commanders can wear several equipment pieces.
  • Each piece adds stats, often focused on one troop type or role.
  • Some pieces belong to sets that give extra bonuses when combined.
  • Equipment is crafted at the Blacksmith from materials and blueprints.

Materials

The main crafting materials include leather, iron ore, ebony and animal bone. You get them from:

  • Barbarians – see our barbarians guide.
  • Material production in your city.
  • Events and rewards.

Materials come in different qualities, and higher-quality equipment needs higher-quality materials.

What to craft first

  1. Equipment for your main troop type – see our troop types guide.
  2. Pieces for your main field commander.
  3. Peacekeeping or barbarian-focused gear if you hunt a lot.
  4. Gathering gear for your gathering commanders.

Set bonuses

Wearing several pieces from the same set unlocks additional bonuses. Sometimes it’s worth using a slightly weaker piece to complete a set – compare the totals before deciding.

Planning around events

Some events reward crafting or offer blueprints. Saving materials for those moments can give you better equipment for the same effort.

Common mistakes

  • Crafting gear for troop types you don’t use.
  • Wasting high-quality materials on low-priority pieces.
  • Ignoring set bonuses.

Equipment pays off for a long time. Focus on your main troop type and commander first, and your armies will hit noticeably harder in KvK.
