Call of Dragons Resources Guide: Food, Wood, Stone, Gold and Mana

Every Call of Dragons resource explained – what it's used for, where it comes from and how to avoid the bottlenecks that slow down your City Hall upgrades.

Almost every upgrade in Call of Dragons costs resources, and running short of the wrong one can stall your account for days. Here’s what each resource does and how to keep them flowing.

The main resources

ResourceUsed forMain sources
FoodTraining and maintaining troops, many upgradesFarms, gathering, quests
WoodBuildings and researchLumber production, gathering
StoneHigher-level buildingsQuarries, gathering
GoldAdvanced research, upgrades and unitsGathering, events, quests
ManaMagic-related upgrades and unitsMana sources on the map, events

Exact costs change as you progress, but the pattern is simple: early on, food and wood matter most; later, stone, gold and mana become the bottlenecks.

Find your bottleneck

Before you start gathering for the day, look at your next three planned upgrades. Which resource are you always missing? That’s your bottleneck – send most of your marches to gather it.

Production vs gathering

  • Production buildings give steady income, but it’s modest.
  • Gathering with marches on the map gives far more, especially at higher-level resource points.

Most of your income will come from gathering. See our gathering guide for how to maximise it.

Protecting resources

Resources sitting in your city can be stolen if you’re attacked. To stay safe:

  • Spend resources instead of hoarding them.
  • Keep a shield up when you’re offline during dangerous periods.
  • Stay inside alliance territory where it’s safer to gather.

Resource items

Quests, events and chests give resource items you can open later. Keep them in your inventory instead of opening them immediately – unopened items are safe from raids, and you can open exactly what you need for an upgrade.

Common mistakes

  • Gathering whatever is closest instead of the bottleneck resource.
  • Opening resource items too early and losing them to raids.
  • Leaving marches idle – every idle march is lost income.
  • Ignoring mana until it suddenly blocks an important upgrade.

A healthy economy makes everything else easier. Plan around your bottleneck, keep marches busy and protect what you’ve gathered. Next, put those resources to work with our City Hall upgrade order.
